About
Moin!
I am Lianna Begett, a non-binary linguist working primarily in translation and localisation.
On this page, you may find some information about my educational and professional history.
Education
I graduated the highest level of the German school system (Gymnasium) in 2018, earning the right to attend university. Throughout school, I was enrolled in the bilingual German–English educational track; some subjects such as history, geography or biology were taught entirely in English.
Right after graduating in 2018 I went on to study Linguistics and Political Sciences as dual Bachelor's degrees at Universität Bielefeld, later switching the secondary major to Computational Linguistics.
I completed several internships at industry-related businesses, including at the scientific publishing house [transcript]-Verlag.
Professional
I started contributing to various community translation efforts of several free-and-open-source software projects during my teenage years.
In 2024, I transitioned to working in translation and localisation professionally. I am lucky to have been given the chance to consistently work for highly recommended translation agencies and contributing to some very exciting high-profile media projects since.
You can learn more about my professional experience on the Portfolio page.
Personal
I was born in 2001, in a quaint village in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
I grew up bilingual, speaking both 🇩🇪 German and 🏴 English from a very young age. Educationally this continued through school, where I enrolled in a special bilingual track ensuring that some subjects were taught entirely in English.
Existing as a queer marginalised person in Germany also means going through many journeys at once – moving, transitioning, delving into and out of many a subculture and identity on a road of self-discovery.
Experiencing all that and meeting people from many walks of life continues to provide me with unique perspectives; many of which allow me to help you create more authentic stories, worlds and characters.
